Winner! "You Are Not Alone"
BC Society of Transition Houses wins the BC Association of Broadcasters 2018 Humanitarian Award for Ad Created by Hello Cool World
We are excited and proud to announce that the BC Society of Transition Houses is the recipient of the BC Association of Broadcasters 2018 Humanitarian award for the “You Are Not Alone” videos we created for them in March of last year.
The award was announced last night at BCAB 71st Annual President’s Dinner & Awards Gala held in Kelowna. Established in 1980, the Humanitarian Award was created to help charitable organizations communicate their message, recognizing the need to relay information that has a positive impact on all British Columbians.
A Multi-Language Outreach Campaign for Women Experiencing Violence
The "You Are Not Alone" campaign reached out to women in five languages, hoping to be a lifeline to immigrant and refugee women who may have not known what transition houses offer. There are over 100 transition houses all over BC offering free support and shelter for women and children who are experiencing violence.
For this campaign it was important to us to not create something scary or sensational. We wanted to reassure women, to allay their fears, and support them to "make the call." There is a clean safe place where they can get support to start over, with both community and the privacy of their own room. The main message is: "you are not alone, and we are here for you."

We also want to thank the Hello Cool World team who created this ad: Director Kat Dodds, Assistant Director Bella Sie, Director of photography Lindsay George, Facilitator/photographer Jen Sungshine, and all the women who acted in it, including our own Maggie Wang and Sandy Haksi. Big thanks to those who leant their voice and helped with translations: Rozita Jalilli, Abeer Hattab, Swinder Singh and Maggie Wang. Post-production assistance from D'Arcy Hamilton, voiceover recording by John Sawa, and final sound mix by Jenn Lewis. And of course many thanks to our client liaison co-creator Hannah Lee who brought us all together in the first place.
This campaign had a modest production budget, and rolled out on TV, Radio, online and in print including interior bus cards, ads in restaurants. Through sponsorship, with in-kind and by optimizing all free PSA space on TV stations, we were able to leverage a very tiny ad buy budget into a campaign worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars. With this award comes much more airtime for this ad, and will serve to enhance its impact for women immeasurably.
